TRAUMA AND MENTAL HEALTH INFORMED SCHOOL AWARD

"Pitmaston Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

At Pitmaston, we believe that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Mrs Sara Bream (Deputy Headteacher) is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. Mrs Kate Wilcock (Head teacher) Mrs Jane Lyons (Assistant Head teacher) Mrs Sue Bladen (School Business Manager) and Mrs Rebecca Williams (Phase 4 Leader) are all Deputy Designated Safeguarding leads. The Governor with responsibility for child protection is Mrs Lynda Townsend.

Pitmaston Primary School believes that it is completely unacceptable for a child to experience abuse of any kind. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children. We provide staff and volunteers with guidance to follow when they suspect a child may be experiencing abuse or at risk of harm. We will work co-operatively with other professionals and external agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first – unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Overall Assessment:

"Pitmaston provides a safe, caring and inclusive environment in which the children are supported by every member of staff from the minute they arrive at school to when they leave.  The children are happy and enjoy school because the trusting relationships between them and the adults are consistent and PACEful. The schools’ two TIS practitioners are excellent role models and support the large staff team to develop their practice.  The school is led by a passionate, effective and inclusive head teacher whose values are child-centred and shared widely with stakeholders.  A passionate inclusion team provide children with a wide-range of evidence-based interventions that ensure children have access to appropriate and supportive mechanisms that reflect the PRRRs.  The children express that they feel everyone is treated fairly in school and they can trust and talk to any adult.  The governors support the school’s priority to focus on the mental health and well-being of the pupils and as such to deeply embed TIS practices within the school.

My memories of the visit will include talking to the children and being told about the best things about Pitmaston School; these included ‘the equality and kindness’, ‘everyone is treated fairly and is kind to each other’, ‘if you feel down in the dumps, you will be helped’." - TISUK Assessor
